Every sport breaks a roster file in its own way. These are the ones that bite in PGA Tour.
Every other sport gives you a two-digit shortcut printed on the athlete. Golf gives you a face and a name, which is precisely the situation where a prepared file saves the most typing.
A tournament field is not a season-long roster. Who is playing this week is its own list, and it is not the list from the last event.
With no number and no team, the name has to be exactly right. A prepared file removes the spelling risk of typing it under deadline.
The export is not locked to one program. The same PGA Tour roster file loads into Photo Mechanic and into GalleryID Desktop, with identical shortcodes either way.
Edit > Settings > Set Code Replacements > Load, then pick the file. The shortcodes are live in the caption fields immediately.

You choose the columns. The export is a tab-separated file, so anything that reads a tab-delimited roster can use it.
