Baseball has the most volatile roster in American sport. Option a reliever in the morning, call one up in the afternoon, and the file you built last homestand is already wrong. SnapCaption pulls the current 40-man plus coaching staff in about a minute, and the file loads into Photo Mechanic and GalleryID Desktop.

Every sport breaks a roster file in its own way. These are the ones that bite in MLB.
Options, call-ups, injured list moves and September expansion all happen mid-series. Building the file the day you shoot is the only version of this that stays correct.
Managers and pitching coaches end up in more frames than half the bench. Coach codes are built alongside the players rather than added by hand afterward.
Twenty minutes of roster prep per game is more than fifty hours across a season. That is the actual cost of doing this by hand.
The export is not locked to one program. The same MLB roster file loads into Photo Mechanic and into GalleryID Desktop, with identical shortcodes either way.
Edit > Settings > Set Code Replacements > Load, then pick the file. The shortcodes are live in the caption fields immediately.
Code Replacement is the name Camera Bits, Inc. gives the feature in Photo Mechanic's own documentation, which is why this file is often called a code replacement roster file.
Attach the same file as a roster and the identical shortcodes expand while you caption. Nothing about the export changes.
GalleryID Desktop goes further than shortcodes — it identifies athletes by facial recognition and writes the names into the photo, so there is no code to type at all. See GalleryID Desktop
The h is the prefix you assigned the home club, 27 the uniform number. Coaching staff get their own codes, and you can choose whether coaches key off position, number, or both.
You choose the columns. The export is a tab-separated file, so anything that reads a tab-delimited roster can use it.
30 teams, kept current from in-season sources. Pick any two and build one file for the whole game.
In Photo Mechanic, go to Edit > Settings > Set Code Replacements, click Load, and pick the file. GalleryID Desktop takes the same file as a roster with no change to the export.
Yes. Coaching staff are built into the file alongside players, and you can control whether coach codes are position based, number based, or both.
Rosters come from current-season sources including coaching staff, so call-ups appear once the source reflects them. You can also edit or add any row before exporting.
Build the file that morning. That is the advantage over maintaining one by hand — the pull is fast enough to do on the day rather than in advance.
Pick your teams, set your codes, download the file. Free, and no account required.
